Lecture Series in Tsinghua University on Environment and Development

In May 2017, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Tsinghua University launched a lecture series on development and environment. Following the launching ceremony, ADB East Asia Department Director General Ayumi Konishi delivered a lecture on "Climate Change: People's Republic of China (PRC)'s responses and ADB's support". He discussed global climate change challenges, PRC's essential roles in implementing the Paris Agreement, and ADB's support for the region and the PRC in particular. DG Konishi stressed the importance of knowledge partnership with Tsinghua University in supporting PRC's ecological civilization agenda.

The PRC’s extraordinary progress over the past thirty years and ADB’s evolving partnership with the PRC offers important experiences and lessons. Based on development projects, the lecture series will emphasize challenges, approaches, and solutions for environmentally sustainable growth. Guest lecturers are from the management team of the East Asia Regional Department (EARD), ADB. At the end of the course, students are expected to have gained familiarity with: (i) the institutional arrangement concerning international development and cooperation; (ii) the approaches and processes with which development assistance is delivered by multi-lateral development banks; and (iii) current thinking and best practices in key sectors that ADB is engaged in, especially current and future cooperation priorities with the PRC Government.
